I never thought I'd see the day, but I did it (woo!). This portrait for class turned out far better than previous ones. The edges are far smoother and it isn't as blotchy. There are always areas for improvement, but seeing a challenge accomplished feels quite rewarding.

Little Fishy
Okay technically big fishy... with teeth. I'm back at school again! This is our first digital painting assignment. We got to choose a fish and do a value painting of it as a refresher. I decided to challenge myself with an angler fish. All that is left to do is the edges in my spare time.

Yggdrasil
I spent the afternoon drawing some rough layouts in the cafe and I really liked how this one turned out so when I got home I painted the sketch. This is the outcome. Took about four hours (new record!). It served more as a refresher from my lessons in digital painting with blocking and then focusing on the values. I need to work on texture. It would add more to the painting.

ROM and Back Again
Managed to squeeze in another trip to Toronto. Minus my impeccable ability of missing the train, the day was amazing. Tackled more of the Canadian animals and had some fun drawing an ostrich. Great animal to draw. Especially when you nearly sit underneath it. While still practicing form and proportions, this visit I really played with depth. Most of the poses I drew the animals from required slight foreshortening. My next focus will be on line quality.
Now this was post ROM. Character design is one of those areas I still need to work on so while on the train home I started drawing characters. This was the initial sketch I came up with. I would like to go back and refine the designs so I can become more comfortable with character designing.

Drawing at the ROM
Finally this summer I have had the chance to make a trip down to the ROM and practice drawing. Despite the torrential downpour (by some miracle I kept my sketchbook dry), it was an exciting time. I got to work on gestures and animal studies. I loved drawing the birds and large cats. Especially the jaguar in it's hunting pose. I hope I have more chances this summer to do this. Or to even go to the zoo and draw the living ones.

Painting Fun!
Now that the early summer craziness has passed, I have gone back to doing what I do best. Art. My goal this summer is to practice digital painting in particular. I learned a lot in the school year, but I need to improve. As well, I would like to start painting pieces for future conventions to run a table. So this way I'll be doing a two birds with one stone.
Here is my first painting piece. I chose to do Spyro as it was my first ever game. This is the fastest painting I've done (woo!). Definitely room for improvement. Particularly in texture and edges, but it is a start. Will post more (including pieces from school) soon.

Layout Labs
Now that the semester is over, I am in the process of going through my art to prepare for Seneca's Artbook. It's astounding the amount of decisions I have to make. What do I put in? How will I arrange it? On top of that I've been plucking away at constructing my website, updating this poor blog, and figuring out what I'll be doing this summer work wise and art wise. There is never a dull moment. Anyways, amongst all this, I will start uploading my work from this semester and catching up to the present.
Starting with my layouts. I'm showing the lineart as well as the coloured version of my Mad Scientist Lab project. I'm still learning to colour so I hope to return to this piece at a later day and make the colour scheme in more harmony. It is still a start, though. I am very happy with how the glass look appeared.
I have a few more layouts I wish to upload. Just in the middle of getting them back and scanning them. Next up will be works from character design, life drawing, and painting. Have fun!

Descending Ball with Tail
An animation from my previous semester while learning the core basics of animation. It started with bouncing balls, then adding tails, and finally combining them into a series of bounces where the subject comes to a stop. Will try to share my character based animations of this semester in time. It is something I wish to practice.
Character - Crazy Rapper
Taking someone from my class, I characterized them into a crazy rapper and then drew them in the style of the show Di Gata Defenders. It is my first real leap in character design, and I am proud of how it turned out. This is a subject I wish to improve in.

Object Studies
As a way to study basic shapes within perspective, I gathered an assortment of objects to analyze the shapes that made up their structure, and then applied what I learned to paper. It was an interesting assignment. Especially when I discovered how many little shapes can be found in the most simple of objects. You'd be surprised what you will learn when you take a moment to look at your trash.
